ABOUT

Alto Gallery is proud to present Falling Leaf, a solo exhibition of new and recent mixed media works by multi-disciplinary artist Victor J. Escobedo. Processing personal and universal shifts through the exploration of multiple creative outlets, Escobedo's Falling Leaf collection varies from handmade clay ceremonial masks to marionettes and paintings. The pieces reflect Escobedo's unique vision and connection to ancestral knowledge. On view Oct. 9 - Oct. 30.

“The show’s title Falling Leaf alludes to the inevitability of change we all deal with - from past to present, holding onto tradition while acclimating to new ways of life.” - Victor Escobedo

ABOUT VICTOR ESCOBEDO

Victor Escobedo’s body of work pays tribute to his experience being born in America to Mexican parents, time spent in the Yucatan jungle listening to his grandmother speak Maya, seeing ancient ruins, exploring Mayan sites before tourism, and growing up in Los Angeles in the 80s and 90s. He moved to Denver in 2006 and earned a BFA from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2011. Victor held a residency at the Children’s Museum of Denver in 2020 and is currently a resident artist at Redline Contemporary Art Center.

Victor Escobedo is a fine artist and muralist whose pieces are timeless, connecting to the ancient through innovative approaches. Much of his inspiration is derived from explorations into his Maya ancestry and the traditions of Maya scribes. Through a unique style of characters, reimagined ancient iconography, dynamic, textured backgrounds, and striking color palettes, Victor explores mysticism, intuition, and Shamanistic practices as inspiration for contemporary transformation.
